Exercise Oncology: Empowering Patients to Find Strength in Movement

There is an abundance of evidence-based research that supports exercise as an intervention in the oncology setting throughout the entire cancer care continuum; however, exercise or physical activity initiatives are not standard of care in oncology practice. There is a great need to implement exercise oncology research into practice in order to improve patient outcomes, quality of life and potentially provide a cost savings benefit; however, there is a gap in knowledge on how exactly to translate this research into practice. The oncology nurse may provide an effective pathway to aid in this translation. This course serves to provide the necessary knowledge base about current evidence-based research and guidelines in order for the oncology nurse to confidently and effectively provide patient and caregiver education on exercise recommendations and referral to cancer exercise/rehab professionals accordingly.
